Originally, the definition of enterovirus and rhinovirus serotypes was based on cross-neutralisation tests using specific antisera. More recently VP1 sequence data has been used to classify human enteroviruses and rhinoviruses into types using the differences between the serologically defined types to define cut-off levels.

Simian enterovirus A

This species consists of four viruses SV28, SV4, SA4 and A2-plaque virus. SV28 (SEV-7) and SV4 (SEV-7') were isolated from rhesus macaques (Macaca mulatta) in the 1950's (Hull et al., 1956, 1958). Bovine  enterovirus

The division of bovine enteroviruses (BEVs) into varying numbers of serotypes was summarised by Knowles and Barnett (1985) who concluded, using newly produced antisera, that BEVs could be classified into two antigenically diverse serotypes. Zell et al. (2006) determined the genome sequences of a number of BEVs.
