Picornavirus Type Classification:
New and Re-classified Types

In order to bring some order to the creation or re-classification of picornavirus serotypes (or types) it has been decided that the chairman of the Picornaviridae Study Group (currently Nick Knowles) should manage new proposals in consultation with other experts in the field.

We have taken the starting point of these deliberations as the 7th ICTV Report and therefore changes that have taken place, or been proposed, since that book was published are listed here.
